Sweethope Fishing Report 27th April 2014

Another great week at the fishery has seen more excellent double figure catches.

Visits from Chris Guthrie this week saw a catch of 38 fish in partnership with Gary Hays on Wednesday and a catch of 35 fish on Friday.

Notable fish have been Monday’s 5lb rainbow caught by David Herdman of Wark on a Woolly Bugger and Mr. J Youngman’s 4lb 14oz Rainbow caught on Sunday.

Both the Lower Lough and the Great Lough Have been fishing well and in total 326 rainbows,8 blue and 4 brown trout have been caught 92 of these were taken and 234 returned safely to the water.

We were hosts to the Berwick Bears on Sunday and their loch style competition. The winner was Mr. G Inkpen with a 3 fish bag of 7lb 7oz. He also returned 9 fish.

Successful fly patterns were: olive dries, black dries, Kate McClaren, Diawl bach, PTN, Black Tadpole, bibio, Dawsons Olive and Yellow.

Finally the return of the Cuckoo, heard on Friday and on Sunday perhaps attests to the arrival of Spring!
